Today, June 5 a meeting was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan between the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Academician Khushvakhtzoda Qobiljon Khushvakht, and a delegation of representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) led by Ms. Steyskal Sandra Marie.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of scientific and technical cooperation and exchanged views on the implementation of joint projects aimed at advancing scientific research in the fields of water resources and glaciers. They also discussed the expansion of cooperation in the application of nuclear technologies to address environmental challenges, manage water resources, and study climate change.

Particular attention was paid to the issue of equipping the country’s cancer centers with modern diagnostic and treatment equipment. The parties highly appreciated the opportunities for attracting technical support from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in this area.

The President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Academician Khushvakhtzoda Qobiljon Khushvakht, expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Tajikistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and emphasized that the further development of scientific cooperation and the implementation of joint projects would contribute to strengthening the country’s research capacity and addressing important socio-economic issues.

For their part, the representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reaffirmed their readiness to continue fruitful cooperation with the scientific and research institutions of Tajikistan, including the Agency for Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear Safety of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, and highly appreciated the achievements of Tajik scientists in the study of water resources and glaciers.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further expand cooperation and implement new joint projects.
